Thank You for your Help from the Parish of St. Joseph the Worker. Terry Cardinal, Outreach Minister writes: I would like to thank you for the wonderful assortment of Christmas Gifts and food that wer donated by the members of the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce. It is so ver much appreciated.
One of the families you helped is a young mother with three children. Her husband had left her and the children and took all of their assets with him. They were left with very little. And just before Christmas she lost her job due to down-sizing. She has prospects for another job but things were really tough for them at Christmas. She and her children were so happy with the gifts and food as were all the other families that were recipients of your generosity. We would like to especially thank the members that were drop-off points for these gifts-Shear Indulgence Hair Salon, Ultimate Fitness, Cameo Grooming and Dog Day Care and Adecco Employment Services. We are so grateful to have your organiztion present in our community.. You certainly are an asset that is most positive. Again, Thank you!! With many good wishes for a happy, healthy and peaceful 2008.

As you are probably aware, last year Baldwinsville played host to the first annual American Carp Society N.E. Regional Carp Tournament and it was an overwhelming success with over 30 teams participating from across the country as well as the world. This year\'s tournament is already poised to double last year\'s turnout. It will take place May 14-17, 2008 in Baldwinsville and Liverpool at select waterfront locations. If you\'d like to place an ad in the official program (It was a beautiful, glossy 8x11 program featuring the new Red Mill Inn, the host site of the tournament, on the cover) the costs are as follows:
Full page $160.00 Half Page $95.00 Quarter Page $$60.00 Eighth Page $40.00
Please contact Laurel Landphere at 315-858-5858 or email ads@rsmercury.com . PDF or JPG format perferred for ads. They are also interested in restaurants willing to deliver to the teams fishing as they fish for 48 hours straight without leaving their spot. Ads might also be a good spot to include a coupon to your establishment, etc. These visitors LOVED the area and had a great time last year, so this is a perfect opportunity to showcase your business and services. Don\'t forget, the tournament also draws a lot of local people as well! If you could pass this on to the chamber membership, as many would probably appreciate the opportunity to advertise at such an inexpensive rate, preferrably via email since time is of the essence, it would be appreciated!

Liverpool Humor
Have you ever wondered what kinds of questions the Greater Liverpool Chamber receives?
Usually it is how do I find out about population, traffic flow, hotels, restaurants, Massage therapist, how to start a business, schedule of events at Onondaga Lake or I am moving into the area can you send some realators or information about the area and more. You will however enjoy this email we received this month.
Hello my name is Terri with Lake City Travel and I have clients that are visiting London end of June and they wanted information on Concerts in Liverpool or surrounding areas and anything with the Rock Hall to visit.  Can you give me any information on this or websites to look up information.  I would appreciate it very much.  Thank you Terri

Treasure Hunt
Treasure HuntThe 2008 Treasure Hunt will begin in June and will run through July, ending with a public drawing of the grand prize winners at Johnson Park! (exact dates to be announced) During the Treasure Hunt, programs will be disbursed throughout the community and media promotions will encourage the public to visit all the participating businesses. Promote your business to thousands, while supporting your Greater Liverpool Chamber of Commerce.

2008 Greater Liverpool Chamber of Commerce Treasure Hunt
June 6 – end of July 2008

What’s in it for my business?
· This is a unique opportunity to drive new prospective clients into your business!
· Promote your business through a variety of advertising.

How it works:
· Each Sponsor will be given an Entry box, along with a stack of Business Card Sized entry forms and a poster and Treasure Hunt Catalogs (which direct participants to all locations).
· Participants must visit participating merchants to fill out and entry form.
· Contestants will fill in name and address on back of form and deposit in entry box.
· The more sponsors that a participant visits, the greater their chance of winning!
· One entry per participant per location. The committee goes through every box and does remove multiples from any one given location.

How it will be promoted:
· Advertising members will provide ads-Newspapers, radio, TV, Media Calendar Web Sites, and of course the www.liverpoolchamber.com
· Yard signs strategically placed throughout the area directing participants to the Chamber office and website for more details.
· Signage in the Village of Liverpool and allowable locations.
· Advertising information booklet, available at all participating merchants.
· Booklets will also be given to schools, day cares and be taken to every and any event the chamber is at. Distribution is also at every Liverpool Is the Place Concert.
· At this moment we are looking at other venues to get the booklets out.

How Chamber Members can participate:
· Choose a level of participation on the Treasure Hunt Form
· Decide if you want folks to come into your business or visit your web site to enter.
· Anyone advertising $100 to $400 agrees to offer a prize worth $25 or more. The contestant who wins may not be someone who entered at your location, thus another opportunity to have someone visit your location.
· Provide a good location in your place of business that is visible for the entry box and booklets.
· Help in anyway to create the excitement of this event.
· Provide the Chamber with electronic Ad by May 2nd
· Anyone who gets their registration in before April 1 can take $25 off their ad.
· All ads and registrations forms must be in no later than May 2nd.
· New Member Special-Join the Liverpool Chamber at the $200 level, receive a ¼ page ad and current year membership until October 31st.

Treasure Hunt

H.R. 5819
The Liverpool Chamber received this communication...It is the policy of the Greater Liverpool Chamber not to take sides nor endorse political candidates nor issues. We will however pass information to you and it is up to you to endorse or not endorse an issue.
Thank you for calling attention to small businesses. Recently, we contacted you regarding H.R. 5819, and its potential harmful impacts on small businesses. Last night H.R. 5819, passed through the House of Representatives with 368 – 43 vote. As this bill moves to the Senate, we are further encouraging you to take action.
We ask you and your members to contact your Senators to let them know that you oppose amending the definition of a small business as "independently owned" in the Small Business Act.
Finally, we are interested in obtaining an official statement from your chamber opposing H.R 5819. For your convenience, I have included: a description of our concerns, a link to a sample template letter, a link to the congressional contact portal, a copy of H.R. 5819, and a letter template that you can personally use to contact your representative.
Thank you and please let me know if you have any questions.
Best regards,
Chris

ASBL Concerns:
Our concern is that, Title II of H.R. 5819 changes the definition of a small business from the current definition of "independently owned” to include businesses owned up to 49.9 percent by a single venture capital firm or up to nearly 100 percent if owned by multiple venture capital firms, so long as no single firm owns more than 49.9 percent. Additionally, as amended the bill will allow large venture capital firms (meaning more than 500 employees) to own up to 20 percent of a small business and still maintain small business status. This change is an increase of 10 percent over the previous standard. Title II of the act amends Sec. 9 (e) of the Small Business Act, which is specific to the SBIR program. While this legislation limits venture capital participation in a small business concern to the SBIR program, H.R. 5819 creates a dangerous precedent that could lead to venture capital participation in other small business programs.

As introduced, H.R. 5819 will force legitimate small businesses to compete head-to-head against firms controlled by billionaire venture capitalists for even the smallest government orders for goods and services. This bill is being fast-tracked and is scheduled to be debated on the floor of the house today. With that in mind, we need you to act with urgency today.

INFORMATION TO HELP YOU GROW YOUR BUSINESS

Q: How can an entrepreneur build flexibility into his/her growth strategy?
Run a tight ship. Be very conservative with infrastructure and overhead costs, but also be willing to invest in meaningful infrastructure upgrades that keep the business growth from stagnating.

Q: How important is good planning in building fast growth into a company?
Plan well. Plan early and often. Good planning gives you the ability to make sound decisions quickly because you can create contingency plans for multiple business opportunities as they arise. You can’t make good decisions if you don’t plan.

Companies retain workers by letting them volunteer
Volunteering has become a kind of corporate benefit to help employees who want to improve interpersonal skills, sharpen teamwork and hone their ability to overcome obstacles. Companies increasingly are offering time off to retain two major groups: younger people who want to balance personal values and beliefs and ready-to-retire employees who want to serve their communities. Sun-Sentinel (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)/Associated Press (2/11) Also call the local Corporatte Volunteer Council at 315-428-2246 or visit www.1800volunteer.org.
When headcount must be eliminated, it is difficult for management to determine how and where the cuts will be made.  Oftentimes, these decisions are made in an apparent vacuum , without a clear understanding of the real costs and longer term strategic impact on the organization, its employees and customers.  This week's Workplace Wellness column offers some questions to consider before terminating employees when business is in a downward trend.  As always, your comments, observations, ideas and stories regarding this topic or any other contemporary workplace issues are welcomed and appreciated. Government could be your next best customer
With the economy slowing, a small business's next best customer may be the federal government -- the world's largest supplier of goods and services. A Massachusetts company that sells and services big rigs sold $1.2 million in truck parts last year to the government after hiring a consultant to help with the complicated bidding process. Corporate Challenge
An invitation to join the Corporate Challenge. Walk, Run or Party
June 24th

On behalf of the Greater Baldwinsville and Greater Liverpool Chambers of Commerce, I'd like to invite you to participate in the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge to be held on Tuesday, June 24th at 6:25pm at Onondaga Lake Park. Our chambers felt it might be a fun way to promote chamber membership by banding together under the banner of "The Other Chambers" as many business owners tend to think solely of the Syracuse Chamber of Commerce when asked if their company is a member of a chamber. With so many business entities participating in this community event, we felt this woul be of dual benefit: promote each individual chamber relative to location and each individual business choosing to participate with us. We will have a booth/tent. Your business can walk or run with us (we will have "The Other Chambers" Of Commerce t-shirts made--feel and by bringing literature to have on hand for those other businesses/individuals participating in the event (some may choose not to walk or run, that's fine, too as we need people to man the tables). Talk about a captive audience as this event brings out so many from the business community! So please, join us in this fun, community event and help promote chamber membership and your individual businesses. Please forward to your membership, print in your newsletters, and feel free to contact me, your team captain, for more information.Event Info:
